Tetley’s Dream Camomile Lemon

First Impressions

One of my favourite grocery stores had a bunch of Tetley teas on sale a while back, so I picked up several flavours to try. Not the usual type of tea that I review and feature on One More Steep, but I recently had a friend point out to me that I share a lot of teas that aren’t as easy to get a hold of (e.g. teas from stores local to me or online from overseas), so I wanted to take a moment to also include some easily accessible teas as well, hence the Tetley.

Dream Camomile Lemon comes in a cardboard container with a tight fitting plastic lid. Under the lid, there’s a foil seal to make it airtight. Tetley’s teas come in round tea bags, with no strings or tags. The aroma from Dream Camomile Lemon reminds me primarily of lemon and chamomile. The ingredients in Dream Camomile Lemon are: camomile, licorice, natural flavour, natural lemon flavour. I think it would have been a nice, and welcome, addition if there had been lemon peel or lemon grass included in the blend.

Preparation

Tetley recommends steeping Dream Camomile Lemon in boiling water (100°C/212°F) for 3-5 minutes and to serve clear (e.g. no cream/milk, sugar, etc.). I followed the recommended steeping instructions and did an initial steep of 4 minutes.

First Taste

Dream Camomile Lemon steeps to an cloudy light amber colour. It has a lovely lemon aroma to it. There’s a pleasant flavour on first taste, I notice that the lemon is quite strong while the chamomile is in the background – there’s just a light floral flavour to it. For those who like their teas sweet, there is a nice sweetness to the tea and no sourness from the lemon itself.

I also iced a cup of Dream Camomile Lemon and found it to be very pleasant iced, it would make a nice summer iced tea.

A Second Cup?

Resteeping Dream Camomile Lemon went about as well as I had thought it would. The primary flavour in the resteep was the chamomile with its floral sweetness. There was very minimal lemon flavour in the resteep.

My Overall Impression

I liked Tetley’s Dream Camomile Lemon. I thought that the flavour was quite tasty for the initial steep, but found that it did really quite poorly in the resteep. I think this could be improved with adding more lemon ingredients into the blend, just to allow it to be more present. The flavour balance of the chamomile and the lemon was really nice though, and I think it does really well both hot and iced.

Wize Monkey’s Minty Marvel

Wize Monkey has provided me with Minty Marvel for the purposes of providing an honest review.

First Impressions

If you’ve been reading One More Steep for a while (and I hope you have!), you know I reviewed Wize Monkey’s Minty Marvel back in May of this year. And no, I’m not reviewing the exact same product – Wize Monkey had an updated blend for their Minty Marvel flavour so of course I had to give it a try! They kindly sent me a 50g resealable bag of Minty Marvel in loose leaf format.

When I first opened the bag, the one thing I did notice is the incredibly strong and bright mint aroma. The ingredients in Minty Marvel are: arabica leaves, peppermint leaves, and natural mint flavouring.

Preparation

Wize Monkey recommends steeping Minty Marvel at 95°C (200°F) for 4 minutes. I followed the steeping recommendations for the initial steep of Minty Marvel.

First Taste

Minty Marvel steeps to this beautiful golden orange. The aroma from the dry leaf is primarily that of the coffee leaf base and the pleasant aroma of the peppermint. On first taste, I can definitely pick out the mint. It has a nice cooling quality to it, that is pleasant and refreshing. I find that the mint is quite strong in comparison to the coffee leaf base, which isn’t disconcerting considering that’s what I wanted in the original Minty Marvel recipe. I found it to be a nice cup of tea to drink.

A Second Cup?

I resteeped Minty Marvel for 7 minutes, and found that the flavour was still quite minty. It wasn’t as strong as the initial steep, but I could definitely taste the mint and the tea had a nice cooling quality to it still.

My Overall Impression

I loved Wize Monkey’s Minty Marvel. I’m so glad that Wize Monkey changed up their recipe a bit for Minty Marvel because the added peppermint leaf was such a great idea – it made the coffee leaf tea significantly more minty in the initial steep and in the resteep as well. I also had a cup of this that I drank iced, and found that it made for a refreshing cup of iced tea, so I’d give that a try as well! Having Minty Marvel iced certain amplified the cooling properties of the mint.

DavidsTea’s Just Peachy

First Impressions

Spoiler, I’ve had Just Peachy before. It’s one of my favourite summer-time iced teas from DavidsTea and I realize a little while ago that I hadn’t written about it yet for One More Steep so I decide to do so. I first had Just Peachy in-store when it was offered as an iced tea sample (I’ve also had it hot before and I’ll discuss both further below). The dry leaf of Just Peachy has a very strong peach, fruity aroma to it – which is unsurprising considering the ingredients in the blend.

Just Peachy consists of apple, sweet blackberry leaves, peach, natural and artificial flavouring. Of all the ingredients, the one that stands out the most is probably the peach aroma with the hint of apple in the background. If you’re a fan of peach-based iced teas, you might like this one.

Preparation

DavidsTea recommends steeping Just Peachy in near-boiling water for 4 to 7 minutes. I steeped Just Peachy in 93°C (200°F) water for 6 minutes. I tend to be okay with steeping herbal or fruit infusions for a lengthier period of time because, unlike teas, they don’t have the tea leaves in there that can become bitter or astringent when oversteeped.

First Taste

Just Peachy steeps to a pleasant warm orange colour with a strong peach aroma. The flavour of Just Peach is peach and sweet. I find that the fruit ingredients in Just Peachy are enough that I don’t have to add any sweetener to it – of course your mileage may vary with your sweet tooth. The apple is also a very present flavour in this fruit infusion as well, but the flavour of the apple doesn’t overwhelm or overpower the peach, which is nice considering it’s Just Peachy and not Just Apple.

I’ve had Just Peachy both hot and iced. I find when it’s hot, it’s sweeter. When iced, Just Peachy is a nice, refreshing iced tea. I like it both ways, but really prefer to have it iced (especially when the weather’s hot!). I generally cold steep a pitcher of Just Peachy to enjoy throughout the week.

A Second Cup?

I try to resteep Just Peachy, but find that the flavour just isn’t there in comparison to the initial steep. I would say that Just Peachy is good for one steep.

My Overall Impression

I loved DavidsTea’s Just Peachy. Not really much of a surprise considering it’s a fruit infusion blend that I’ve (re)purchased. I really enjoy the fruity flavours of the peach and love the fact that I don’t have to add any extra sugar or sweetener for it to be a sweet iced tea. Just Peachy is definitely one that I recommend having iced (although it’s very tasty as a hot tisane as well).
