Oteas’s Green Tea with Peppermint

Green Tea with Peppermint by Oteas
Green Tea / Flavoured
$6.95 for 30g (12 sachets)

Oteas has provided me with Green Tea with Peppermint for the purposes of providing an honest review.

First Impressions

Green Tea with Peppermint came in what is now a very familiar to me cardstock box. This one was plastic shrink-wrapped, which meant not plastic bag inside holding the tea bags. The tea bags are, again, biodegradable – which I think is so great because every little bit helps when it comes to the environment!

The first thing I smelled when opening up this box was the peppermint (and more peppermint). I can’t really smell the green tea base, but that’s not too surprising given how strong of an ingredient peppermint (and any other mint) can be. Green Tea with Peppermint consists of: green tea and peppermint.

Preparation

Oteas recommends steeping Green Tea with Peppermint in 85-90°C (185-194°F) water for 2 to 3 minutes. My initial steep was in 85°C water for 2 minutes.

First Taste

Green Tea with Peppermint steeps to a dark golden yellow. There’s a very obvious peppermint aroma from the tea, it’s very pleasant – although also makes me feel like I should be going to sleep soon because I do sometimes associate peppermint and other similar herbal infusions to be more of a sleepy time/bedtime tea than anything else. There’s a nice freshness to the blend that I found pleasant – there’s the brightness from the peppermint and it’s quite strong. The green tea base is considerably lighter in flavour compared to the peppermint, but the mint is such strong aroma and flavour that I’m not overly surprised by that.

A Second Cup?

I resteeped Green Tea with Peppermint once and found that the flavour was very similar to the initial steep, just not as strong in peppermint, which is to be expected. It was pleasant and tasty.

My Overall Impression

I liked OTeas’s Green Tea with Peppermint. I think if you’re a fan of peppermint tea, you’ll be really pleased with this one. The peppermint flavour is really strong throughout and it does well for a resteep to get that extra flavour and value out of your tea sachet. I’m not a huge fan of peppermint usually, so it’s not likely to be a tea that I’m wind up stocking in my tea stash (and that’s the primarily reason for a lower score). I still think it’s really tasty and tastes as I had expected it to. I think if I was a fan of peppermint, it’d definitely be blend that I’d want to keep on hand.

Oteas’s Black Tea with Caramel

Black Tea with Caramel by Oteas
Black Tea / Flavoured
$6.95 for 30g (12 sachets)

Oteas has provided me with Black Tea with Caramel for the purposes of providing an honest review.

First Impressions

Black Tea with Caramel is a little bit different from the first tea that I tried from Oteas (Orange and Ginger). A little bit different is that the box is shrink wrapped, but there was no plastic bag inside of the box. Instead, inside was simply the tea sachets – all 12 of them. The aroma of the tea is primarily that of the caramel, it smells sweet and inviting.

Black Tea with Caramel consists of: black tea and caramel cubes. The tea bags are mentioned as being biodegradable, which I had previously mentioned as a positive aspect in a world of a lot of products that can’t be recycled.

Preparation

Oteas recommends steeping Black Tea with Caramel in 100°C (212°F) water in 3 to 4 minutes. My initial steep was for 3 minutes.

First Taste

Black Tea with Caramel steeps to a bright orange. There’s a strong caramel aroma from this tea, and the caramel cube was quite obvious in the dry leaf. After the steep, I couldn’t find any remnants at all so I’m quite confident that it’s dissolved fully in the hot water. There’s a buttery, sweet flavour to the tea, I found that there’s a nice savoury aspect to it that balances well against the sweet caramel flavours.

A Second Cup?

I resteeped Black Tea with Caramel twice, adding an extra 30 seconds for each subsequent steep. The first resteep is less sweet than the initial, but still has those buttery caramel flavours. The second resteep lacks the caramel flavours, so I would suggest one more steep for Black Tea with Caramel.

My Overall Impression

I loved Oteas’s Black Tea with Caramel. I really enjoyed the buttery, caramel flavours in the tea and wish that it resteeped a bit better since it’s quite tasty. It has a nice sweetness to it, and I think could play well with a bit of cream for a nice tea for afternoon tea, but it also doesn’t need any additional sweetener unless you have a very strong sweet tooth.

Oteas’s Orange and Ginger

Orange and Ginger by Oteas
Fruit Infusion / Flavoured
$6.95 for 30g (12 sachets)

Oteas has provided me with Orange and Ginger for the purposes of providing an honest review.

First Impressions

If you caught my Instagram Stories, you will have seen my unboxing video of the awesome package that I received from Oteas! They very kindly sent me 6 different blends to try and review, and this is the first one – Orange and Ginger. Each tea blend comes in a slender card stock box with the steeping instructions, notes on the tea, and ingredients printed on the sides of the box. The sachets themselves are inside of a sealed plastic bag that’s inside of the box. The sachets are made with a biodegradable material, which is really nice to read for those who want a greener earth.

The tisane itself has some big pieces of dried fruit and whole pieces of pink peppercorn inside. The aroma is primarily orange and ginger with a hint of pepper. It reminds me of a nice ‘sick time’ tea to have, mostly because of the fragrance of the ginger. Orange and Ginger consists of: apple, carrot flakes, orange pieces, orange peel, white hibiscus, , candied ginger cubes, flavouring, pieces of ginger, pink pepper, and mullein blossom.

Preparation

Oteas recommends steeping Orange and Ginger in 100°C (212°F) water for 5 to 10 minutes. I opted to do an initial steep of 10 minutes.

First Taste

Orange and Ginger steeps to a beautiful golden yellow in colour. The aroma is primarily orange and ginger, which isn’t that big of a surprise given the aroma from the dry leaf. There’s a slight tangy flavour that I notice at the beginning of each sip, which gives way to the orange flavour. I found a nice sweetness to Orange and Ginger that’s just light and fruity, which I attribute to the dried apple pieces, as well as the nice warming qualities from the ginger. I did note a bit of spiciness from the ginger and peppercorns, but those flavours were primarily at the tail end of each sip. The combination of the flavours led to a nice, soothing drink – I happened to drink this one on a day that I had a mild sore throat and found that it helped!

Because of sweetness from the fruit ingredients, I didn’t find that Orange and Ginger needed any extra sweetener added.

A Second Cup?

I attempted to resteep Orange and Ginger found it to be lackluster compared to the initial steep – however, this wasn’t a surprise to me as most tisanes don’t do well on more than one steep as the majority of the flavour is used up in the initial steep.

My Overall Impression

I loved Oteas’s Orange and Ginger. I found the flavours to be very pleasant, and the name of the tisane was accurately chosen given that I could smell and taste the orange and ginger throughout the experience. It’s definitely a pleasant blend, and I definitely would recommend it if you had a sore throat – I found the ginger to be quite soothing for my throat, and a little extra vitamin C never hurt anyone when they were sick!
