Dessert by Deb’s Lemon Coconut Pie

Lemon Coconut Pie by Dessert by Deb
Black Tea / Flavoured
$9.00 for 50g

First Impressions

Lemon Coconut Pie comes in a white matte fill bag (sealed and resealable). The colourful label tells me all the information about the tea that I’ll need to know. The aroma of the blend is basically lemon and coconut, which matches very well with the name of the tea.

This black tea blend consists of organic: black tea, vanilla, lemon peel, toasted coconut, and coconut. It’s a beautiful blend of ingredients and smells so good.

Preparation

Dessert by Deb recommends steeping Lemon Coconut Pie in 212°F (100°C) water for 4 to 6 minutes. My initial steep was for 5 minutes.

First Taste

Lemon Coconut Pie steeps to an orange brown colour. There’s a mild bit of oil floating on top of the tea, which I think is either from the lemon peel or coconut. There’s a light coconut aroma, with strong lemon overtones. The flavour of Lemon Coconut Pie is naturally sweet, I can taste the lemon and coconut and I find that there’s a touch of creaminess in the tea that I think is from the vanilla – which does remind me of baked goods (a.k.a. pie?).

A Second Cup?

I resteeped Lemon Coconut Pie once, adding an additional 30 seconds for the steep. I found the flavour to be similar to the initial steep – just a bit less coconut and lemon flavour. It’s still tasty, but I enjoyed the initial steep of the leaves the best.

My Overall Impression

I loved Dessert by Deb’s Lemon Coconut Pie. I love how well the name matches with the flavour and aroma of the tea blend that Deb put together. There’s a nice sweetness to it, paired with the coconut and lemon flavours that works really well together. I think it would be a nice option to have with afternoon tea, it could do well with a lemon tart or lemon meringue pie – or any other dessert that may pair well with lemon or other citrus flavours.

DavidsTea’s Strawberry Colada

Strawberry Colada by DavidsTea
Fruit Infusion / Flavoured
$7.98 for 50g

First Impressions

Strawberry Colada was a purchase I made during DavidsTea online sale. This fruity blend is a tisane, the aroma is bright and fruity – I can smell coconut, strawberry and pineapple. The pieces of fruit are huge and honestly seems like a lot of large chunks. The description suggests having it over crushed ice with rum.

Strawberry Colada consists of: hibiscus, rosehip shells, apple, pineapple, coconut, strawberry, natural and artificial flavouring.

Preparation

DavidsTea recommends steeping Strawberry Colada in ‘near-boiling’ water for 4 to 7 minutes. I opted to steep in 100°C (212°F) water for 7 minutes.

First Taste

Strawberry Colada steeps to a very bright pink – a colour that I know and love from hibiscus. The aroma is very fruity. The flavour of Strawberry Colada is very strong – much like a punch to the taste buds with a mix of sweet, tart, and fruity. I enjoyed it hot, but I enjoyed it even more iced! The flavour is very strong when steeped for a solid 7 minutes.

A Second Cup?

I attempted to resteep Strawberry Colada, but found that it didn’t resteep well (which I’m not terribly surprised at given the fact that it’s a tisane).

My Overall Impression

I loved DavidsTea’s Strawberry Colada. I found the flavour was great – I enjoyed it the most when iced. I think it’d be a great tisane to have cold steeped (or hot steeped), and definitely would recommend it iced and perhaps with a splash of lemonade or soda water to bring more of a summer feel to it. The flavour is definitely quite intense and full of fruity flavour, and I think allowing it to steep for the full 7 minutes is the best course of action to get all of that flavour of it it since tisanes don’t often resteep well.

Naked Teas Galore’s Ms. Grey

Ms. Grey by Naked Teas Galore
Black Tea / Flavoured
$7.35 for 50g

First Impressions

Ms. Grey was one of my purchases from Naked Teas Galore, and it appealed to me because it’s an Earl Grey-inspired blend. This black tea blend is organic and comes in a matte black bag (sealed and resealable). The aroma is very zesty and beautiful, I can definitely see some cornflower petals.

Ms. Grey consists of organic: ceylon, orange peel, lemon peel, lime peel, lavender, blue cornflowers, and natural flavouring. It definitely has a bright citrus aroma and I get a hint of lavender when I smell the dry leaf.

Preparation

Naked Teas Galore recommends steeping Ms. Grey in 100°C (212°F) water for 3 to 5 minutes. I opted to do an initial steep of 4 minutes.

First Taste

Ms. Grey steeps to a reddish orange colour. There’s a pleasant citrus aroma (reminds me mostly of lime over lemon and bergamot). It is a touch bitter, but I do get the floral notes from the lavender coming through. I find that the black tea base to be a bit astringent at my steeping time of 4 minutes. I also tried Ms. Grey with a touch of honey and milk, and found that it helped to temper the bitterness and made it more palatable.

A Second Cup?

I attempted to resteep Ms. Grey, but found it to be lacking the lavender and citrus notes from the initial steep. I would recommend Ms. Grey for just the initial steep.

My Overall Impression

I liked Naked Teas Galore’s Ms. Grey. I thought that it made an interesting twist on a classic Earl Grey blend by adding the orange, lemon, and lime. It really added a zest quality to the flavour and I thought it was nice. I do wish that there was less bitterness to the .
