First Impressions

Lemon Coconut Pie comes in a white matte fill bag (sealed and resealable). The colourful label tells me all the information about the tea that I’ll need to know. The aroma of the blend is basically lemon and coconut, which matches very well with the name of the tea.

This black tea blend consists of organic: black tea, vanilla, lemon peel, toasted coconut, and coconut. It’s a beautiful blend of ingredients and smells so good.

Preparation

Dessert by Deb recommends steeping Lemon Coconut Pie in 212°F (100°C) water for 4 to 6 minutes. My initial steep was for 5 minutes.

First Taste

Lemon Coconut Pie steeps to an orange brown colour. There’s a mild bit of oil floating on top of the tea, which I think is either from the lemon peel or coconut. There’s a light coconut aroma, with strong lemon overtones. The flavour of Lemon Coconut Pie is naturally sweet, I can taste the lemon and coconut and I find that there’s a touch of creaminess in the tea that I think is from the vanilla – which does remind me of baked goods (a.k.a. pie?).

A Second Cup?

I resteeped Lemon Coconut Pie once, adding an additional 30 seconds for the steep. I found the flavour to be similar to the initial steep – just a bit less coconut and lemon flavour. It’s still tasty, but I enjoyed the initial steep of the leaves the best.

My Overall Impression

I loved Dessert by Deb’s Lemon Coconut Pie. I love how well the name matches with the flavour and aroma of the tea blend that Deb put together. There’s a nice sweetness to it, paired with the coconut and lemon flavours that works really well together. I think it would be a nice option to have with afternoon tea, it could do well with a lemon tart or lemon meringue pie – or any other dessert that may pair well with lemon or other citrus flavours.

First Impressions

Berry Bouquet is a green tea blend from the Toronto-based Dessert by Deb, and is a certified organic tea blend. It comes in a matte white foil bag (sealed and resealable!), and with the a coloured label featuring Dessert by Deb’s adorable teapot label. The aroma of the blend is very floral – the first thing that I really noticed was roses. I can smell the lavender and jasmine in the background.

Berry Bouquet consists of organic: green tea, elderberries, raisins, currants, hibiscus, jasmine, rose petals and lavender. It definitely smells like a bouquet of flowers!

Preparation

Dessert by Deb suggests steeping Berry Bouquet at 200°F (93°C) for 4 to 6 minutes. My initial steep was for 5 minutes.

First Taste

Berry Bouquet steeps to a very pink colour, which I attribute to the hibiscus. The aroma is floral, and I found that the taste of Berry Bouquet to be sweet, berry and floral – it’s quite pleasant! It’s a very feminine smelling tea, reminds me of a tea that would be a delight for a tea party. The berry flavour is very light and sweet, it goes well with the floral ingredients.

A Second Cup?

I attempted to resteep Berry Bouquet once, but found that the flavour to be quite watery compared to the initial steep. I would recommend Berry Bouquet for just the one steep.

My Overall Impression

I loved Dessert by Deb’s Berry Bouquet. I really enjoyed this floral blend (hot). I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t taste the green tea, but the floral notes went well with the berry flavours. I think this would be a great tea iced (or cold steeped), and perhaps with a splash of lemonade to really bring the summer feeling alive.

First Impressions

Coco Goji Island is part of Dessert by Deb’s debut collection of certified organic tea blends. It came in a sealed, resealable matte white foil bag with a pretty coloured label on the front. This is a green tea blend and I picked it out because it sounded intriguing (I’m always a sucker for interesting names). It really invokes the idea of drinking iced tea with a little umbrella on a beach somewhere.

I could smell the cherries, lemongrass, and coconut when I first opened the package. Coco Goji Island consists of: green tea, cherries, goji berries, oranges, lemongrass, and toasted coconut. The ingredients are all visible, with surprisingly large pieces of dried orange slices – they smell good!

Dessert by Deb recommends steeping Coco Goji Island in 200°F (93°C) water for 4 to 6 minutes. My initial steep was for 4 minutes.

First Taste

Coco Goji Island steeps to a bright yellow, it’s a really tropical colour that it matches well with the shade of yellow used for the word ‘Coco’ on the package label. There’s a nice aroma from the tea – citrus and fruity. The flavour of the tea is light citrus, the cherries and goji berries linger in the background. I found there was a nice creaminess in the tea, and I think that’s from the coconut. I can’t really taste the green tea, but that’s not too surprising considering some of the other ingredients being quite heavy and flavour-forward in the profile.

A Second Cup?

I resteeped Coco Goji Island twice, adding an additional 30 seconds for each subsequent steep. I found that the cherries and citrus notes were much less pronounced and more of the green tea shone through – slightly grassy and vegetal. I found it to be pleasant.

My Overall Impression

I liked Dessert by Deb’s Coco Goji Island. I found the aroma of the dry leaf to be really inviting, and the flavour of the initial steep was perfectly fruity. If you’re a fan of the fruitiness and less of green tea, resteeping may not be for you. But if you’re a fan of green tea, I’d definitely recommend resteeping the leaves again for more green tea flavour. I think this would be a great candidate for being cold steeped – especially if you’re one that’s prone to oversteeping green teas.
